Windsor is a historic market town on the River Thames. It is home to Windsor Castle, famous for its royal connections. It is surrounded by the delightful countryside of Royal Berkshire and makes a great day trip from Reading. A lively town with great shopping, cafes and restaurants.

Windsor Castle offers something for everyone, built by William The Conqueror in the 11th century is a residence of the British Royal Family. Windsor Castle is one of the Queen’s official royal residences she chooses to spend most of her weekends here. If the Royal Standard flag is flying from the Castle’s Round Tower it means that the Queen is home!

The castle has been extensively remodelled by subsequent monarchs the family home to British kings and queens over a 1,000 years. There are public tours that take place daily of the take in the State Apartments, which contain paintings from the royal art collection and opulent furnishings. The apartments are bold and glamourous.

The largest and oldest occupied castle in the world, with so many areas to explore you need to allow yourself at least 2.5 to 3 hours to see it all.

Legoland

Legoland Windsor Resort, also known as Legoland Windsor, is a unique child-oriented theme park and resort in Windsor, Berkshire in England, themed around the Lego. With more than 55 interactive attractions, Legoland you can soar through the skies, take to the road in complete safety. A theme park not just for kids! Adults can experience the rides too and have a great day out. Legoland is the most visited theme park in the UK.

In common with the other Legolands across the world, the park’s attractions consist of a mixture of Lego-themed rides, building workshops, models and shows. Kids can learn to drive Lego car, ride in the dragon in the Dragon Knights’ castle, if you are feeling brave you can experience the pirate falls. In the summer you can enjoy the vikings water ride to cool down. There are many restaurants on site, offering a range of hot meals, light snacks and childrens lunch boxes. The Savill Gardens is an enclosed part of of Windsor Great Park, it is a garden to see in all seasons and a great day out. There are 35 acres of contemporary and classically designed gardens and woodland to explore. The Savill Garden is one of Britain’s greatest ornamental gardens. Created in the 1930s by Sir Eric Savill with the support of King George the V and Queen Mary. There are great walks all around the garden and the lake. The interlocking gardens all have distinctive areas such as The Hidden Gardens, The Summer Gardens, Autumn Wood, Spring Wood, The Glades, The Azalea Walks and the New Zealand Garden.

Each seasons brings its own colour and beauty. There is an excellent plant centre and gift shop, a restaurant overlooking the gardens, as well as a Temperate Glasshouse, opened in 1995 and named after the Queen Mother. You can treat yourself to a cream tea in The Gallery Cafe. A tranquil place, ideal to relax and spend some time with nature where there is room to breathe.
